Bailed Out
October 3rd, 2008 1:55 PM

So the massive $700 Billion bailout bill has passed congress.  Will it be enough to save the tetering economy from falling over the edge.  That remains to be seen.  The outlook is not great.  Confidence is low, jobs are getting more scarce, and noone seems to know what is around the next bend.  Mortgage rates are still hanging around at very low levels.  The Portland Real Estate market is seeing some small declines.  But we are still doing well compared to some markets like Las Vegas.

The bottom line is this:

People will still buy houses.  They always have, and they always will.  If you are ready to start looking, you can fill an application out online, and we can start working to get you approved for a home loan.

The Economy
September 25th, 2008 3:55 PM

From what I have gathered over the past couple of weeks, bailing out the financial sector is very important.  Not only does it affect the real estate and mortgage areas of the economy, it affects us all.  Regardless of why they are in this position, if the financial institutions are allowed to fail completely, there would be no getting a loan, anywhere.  The economy would stop working correctly.  No lending, no borrowing.  I think we will better off not allowing that to happen.

Strangely enough, a downturn in the market helps mortgage rates.  When people flee the market, they often turn to bonds.  Increased demand in bonds, in turn reduces the bonds yield.  That helps reduce mortgage rates.  Needless to say, rates on mortgage loans in the Portland area are VERY LOW.

Rates
August 28th, 2008 12:51 PM

Portland Mortgage rates are down recently.  This is an illusion though.  Credit score requirements are way up, so the lower your score is, the more you have to add to the rate to get the home loan.  The problem is credit is getting more and more difficult to obtain.  Financial institutions are worried about handing out money, which is a problem, since that is what they do.  Since the lending limits were raised, they have to cover a broader market, extending the risk.

The good news is: if you have been saving responsibly, and you are ready to purchase a new home, right now is an amazing opportunity to get that done.  The Portland Real Estate market is only slightly down, and the upswing is about to begin.  Give us a call and start down the path to home ownership!

www.zillow.com

This site is a wonderful resource.  I use Zillow to check the changes in value of properties throughout the Portland/Vancouver Metro area.  It has tools allowing you to create your own estimate of the value of your home, by entering the upgrades you have made, and what you think they are worth.  Check it out.  You will find yourself returning often.

Have a great weekend!

Glass half full
June 24th, 2008 1:47 PM
Hearing the news today that real estate values have receded in all major metro markets month to month is not a shock.  The economy is obviously finding it's way through turbulent times right now.  The silver lining of this data is amazing opportunity to turn back the clock on Portland real estate, and purchase a new home at a major discount!  There is no good reason to wait.  FHA loan rates are awesome, so jump on this opportunity while it lasts!

Mortgage Rates
June 12th, 2008 1:44 PM

So rates for mortgages in Portland are on the rise.  The dollar is slightly stronger and the Fed is probably going to raise rates to battle inflation.  The treasury bond is up.

If you have been waiting to purchase a home, now would be a good time to pull the trigger and buy.  Home prices are not likely to keep dropping in this area of the country, and with rates possibly having hit bottom, now may best your best opportunity to purchase or refinance your current mortgage.

Summer may finally be here, so get out there and find that dream home!

Summer?
June 6th, 2008 3:39 PM

Wow.  Heading into the middle of June........still 55 degrees?  Come on already!  Rain everyday?  Please.  75 degrees and sunny cannot come soon enough for me.  The Portland Mortgage market should start to warm up as well.  No time like the present to contact us about financing.

Have a great weekend!
